Artober 2023

Artober 2023 is a collection of short stories based off of my series ‘Tales from Aedria’. They aren’t written in chronological order, and the reason for the order they are in is because each one is based off of a prompt from my Artober 2023 list.

  • Beach

    Beach

Moonlight dazzled on the surface of the ocean. But just like everything, it wouldn’t last forever. Marcurio could already see the dark grey storm clouds looming on the horizon as they were slowly drifting towards the shore. The sand still wet from the high tide, but it didn’t stop Marcurio from sitting down. Read more

  • Drip

Rain hammered down outside and lashed against the aged windows of The Clocktower. It was just another one of those winter days that would be filled with rain so cold that it was just a degree off from being hail. The chill in the air didn’t make it any easier to cope with, and Zane… Read more

  • River

    River

‘You know,’ Merrin said as he walked along the path behind the others. ‘We could have been drinking by now if we’d left at the right time.’ Danny rolled his eyes and tried his best to ignore Merrin. Read more

  • Bruises

    Bruises

Orlia sat on the floor in front of her fireplace. The rug she was on was littered with various sketches of flowers she’d been picking the night before. She had a pan of paints in front of her, and she was busy trying to mix up the perfect shade of red for the carnations. Read more

  • Distorted

    Distorted

Brambles scratched at his legs as Merrin clambered through the thicket of foliage. The light of his lantern swayed and flickered as he struggled to keep his balance. Trees peered through the darkness of the forest, the branches splintered and warped. Merrin followed the path of destruction as it carved a way through the dense… Read more

    Bite

‘What the fuck are you doing?’ Merrin asked when he walked into his room. The usual mess of his room was even worse. It looked almost as though a storm had thrown every single one of his belongings across the circular space. An inky black substance was smeared across all of the walls and up… Read more

    Clouds

Talathion finished cutting the last of the wildflowers and placed them in the wicker basket. The hint of grey in the sky above was usual for Ashenport, and he’d been living there for long enough that he knew that it wasn’t going to rain, at least not for another day or so.  Read more

  • Cage

    Cage

‘You don’t seem awfully concerned that you’re in a cage,’ the guard noted with furrowed eyebrows. He had moved to the bench that was directly opposite the cage Viktor was in and sat with his arms crossed over his worn leather armour. Viktor was more than happy to leave the guard in his state of… Read more

  • Spider

    Spider

Wind howled through the small opening to the cave. It wasn’t anything particularly bad for this time of year, but the noise made it seem as though there was a storm outside. Harsh winds were rare so deep into the forests around Valenveil, but everyone who lived there knew that it would pass. Read more

  • Drinks

    Drinks

The Drunken Mercenary was as bustling as ever in the middle of the week, which was to say that it was dead. Only three tables had anyone on them. It was no surprise that it was so quiet. Today was considered a holy day for most people in Ashenport. So instead of being in the… Read more
